The Path
Take back your time, take back your life.
You can be productive, responsible, and doing all the right things, and still feel like your time is being consumed by everything except the life you actually want to live.
The Path is a 12-week guided experience for breaking that pattern, and redesigning your approach to time.
Together, we identify the assumptions and habits shaping the way you use your time and begin to design a more effective, more human, approach to life and work.

Imagine…
- More time for what actually deserves your attention
- Real flow, doing (and enjoying) the work you’re naturally built for
- Uninterrupted focus on the highest-impact tasks
- A daily rhythm that can hold up over time
- Priorities that are aligned with your deeper purpose
- Time to build something real without sacrificing your relationships
- Show up centered and present to the person or task in front of you
“If you’re feeling out of alignment between your life and what matters most, this is a helpful program to move back toward alignment.”
Robert G.
Why does it feel like there is never enough time?
Or as if there just isn’t enough time for _______________
(What is it for you? What do you wish you had the time for?)
That inspired idea, that creative pursuit, the time to take care of your health. The time you want to spend with your daughter or son. The relationship you want to repair. Those thank you letters you meant to write. That team member you wanted to take to lunch. The career change you keep putting off.
The Hidden Obstacle
Most people think they just need more discipline, more focus, more tools, or better organization. Sometimes that’s true. But we’ve found the real obstacle runs deeper.
Every person operates on a system for time, a collection of habits, routines, perceptions, and values built up over a lifetime. It runs quietly in the background, shaping your decisions all day, every day, whether you notice it or not.
Here’s the problem: most of us inherited a system that was never built for human beings in the first place. We call it Machine Time.
Curious how it shows up for you? Take the free TimeWise Assessment →
You were not designed to operate like a machine.
You move through seasons, not straight lines. Your attention isn’t a resource to exploit. It’s an instrument, built to discern what matters and discard what doesn’t. Your creativity doesn’t run on command; it needs space to breathe before it can surprise you. Your best work was never meant to run at a constant output. It depends on rhythms of effort and renewal, the same way every living thing does.
Machine Time calls these flaws. Something to optimize away. They’re not flaws. They’re part of what makes us human. The Path is where you learn to build your time on human terms, instead of at war with it.
“It is a way of rethinking your basic approach to time, bringing clarity and a greater sense of grounding and peace.”

The TimeWise Framework
Machine Time doesn’t live in your calendar. It lives in how you perceive, attend, work, and choose.
01
Perception
Where it hidesThe assumptions you’ve never questioned about what time even is, and what it’s for.
What we rebuildThe ability to see your life, and your time, with fresh eyes.
02
Attention
Where it hidesThe reflex to respond to whatever’s loudest, not what matters most.
What we rebuildThe capacity to direct your focus on purpose.
03
Rhythm
Where it hidesConstant intensity, mistaken for productivity.
What we rebuildSustainable patterns of effort, rest, and renewal.
04
Orientation
Where it hidesA calendar full of tasks disconnected from the life you’re actually trying to build.
What we rebuildDaily choices that serve your purpose instead of competing with it.
The Process
The Path helps you identify old habits and assumptions shaping your time system, and then guides you as you design a time system for your current season in life. A two-fold movement.

Weeks 1–6
The Practice
For the first six weeks, the emphasis is not on learning more ideas. It is on experiencing a different way of living.
Each week combines live cohort sessions, guided practices, reflection, and real-life application. You will work directly with your own experience rather than trying to force yourself into somebody else’s ideal system.
You won’t simply learn about Human Time. You’ll begin practicing it.
01
6-week live guided formation process
You won’t learn about Human Time, you’ll experience it directly.
02
Proven experiential practices
Concrete steps to reshape your relationship to time.
03
Weekly group reflection sessions
You’ll learn to recognize what life is teaching you.
Calls hosted each Thursday at 1pm and 7pm ET.
04
Private community for insight and accountability
Growth is better together, you won’t be alone in this.
Weeks 7–12
The Integration
The first six weeks help you experience Human Time, the next six help you build from it.
During Integration, you’ll take what you’ve discovered through the practices and apply it to the season of life you’re actually in. Rather than adopting somebody else’s ideal routine, you’ll design an approach to time that reflects your actual priorities, responsibilities, energy, and season of life.
You’ll
- Identify the priority or invitation of your current season
- Clarify what deserves more, and less, of your attention
- Design sustainable rhythms for work, rest, relationships, and renewal
- Bring your calendar into greater alignment with what matters most
- Choose the habits and practices that will support this new direction
- Take a meaningful first step and begin building real momentum
By the end of The Path, you won’t leave with a rigid system or an ideal schedule that requires herculean strength to maintain. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of what this season is asking of you, a more intentional structure for your days, and a practical way to keep adapting as life changes. This is where Human Time becomes your new approach to life.
Can you actually make time for this?
Busyness is not a description of a calendar, it’s a description of an internal state, one that tends to self-perpetuate.
Decisions like The Path are rarely really about the specific hours required. Often they speak more towards how the rest of your time is already spoken for, by everyone and everything, with little room for how you actually want to devote your time.
The first six weeks ask for one to two hours a week, most of it a single live session and a short practice in between that integrates to your everyday life. The majority of the work happens in the midst of your daily priorities and commitments, not as another to-do layered on top.
The second six weeks meet you based on what the moment requires. Some people will give it an hour a week. Some will give it more, because they see what the investment of time is giving them back.
The honest answer isn’t so much about the hours. Your hours will be spent one way or another. It’s more so about whether now is the right time for a change.
If everything that’s important keeps getting crowded out by everything that’s urgent, that’s precisely the pattern we’re here to work on.
Why this works when other things haven’t
Stand-Alone Tools
A new app, a new planner. They work for a few weeks, then quietly stop. The tool changes while the pattern underneath doesn’t.
Online Courses
Online courses give you information, but information was never the missing piece, most people already know more than they act on. That’s why most courses go unfinished.
The Path
Begins with what can’t be denied, reconnecting with yourself and your actual experience. System and life design come after the foundation, not before.
Money-Back Guarantee
Attend the first two live sessions and engage the practices. If you participate and decide The Path isn’t right for you, let us know and we’ll refund your enrollment.

Why Now?
The most important things are rarely urgent. And time, unfortunately, tends to fall into the “important, deal with it later” pile.
Here’s why: time isn’t concrete. You don’t see wasted time the way you see a shrinking bank balance. It doesn’t announce itself. It shows up later, as dissatisfaction, as overwhelm, as a season that ended before you were present for it.
Make your time serve the life you want to live, and the gifts you want to give.
Our Why
I spent a long period of my life working to be as productive, efficient, and functional as possible. And in a sense, it worked. I got a lot done. I moved a lot of things forward. I held a lot together for others.
But over time, I began noticing that some important things got lost in the process. Peace, connection, presence. No matter how much I did, the feeling of pressure never truly left.
I started asking a question that has stayed with me ever since: what is the point of becoming increasingly efficient if we’re becoming efficient at building the wrong life?
That question eventually led me to create Monk Manual. In the years since, through products, programs, coaching, and thousands of conversations with people at every stage of their lives and careers, I have seen versions of the same problem. People early in careers wondering how to build something meaningful without losing themselves. People in the middle of life wondering why they’ve achieved the success they thought they wanted, only to sense something key has been missing the whole time. People nearing the end who look back and wonder what all the busyness was actually serving.
Completely different circumstances, completely different lives, but the same underlying question: what will my time ultimately serve?
The Path is now the sixth iteration of this work. It brings together what we’ve learned about productivity, attention, reflection, rhythm, human development, and the practice of building a life around what matters most. Time is potential, it’s the very canvas of our life. What our time serves is what our life serves.
I hope you will join us.

FAQ
Questions worth asking before you begin.
No. You’ll leave with everything you need to build a personal time system, but this isn’t fundamentally about getting more done. It’s about becoming someone whose days reflect what matters to you.
If you’re looking for hacks, tools, or ways to squeeze more output from your day, this isn’t that. There are plenty of good resources built for exactly that purpose.
The Path takes a different approach. Instead of helping you manage time more efficiently, it helps you examine the underlying system that shapes how your days unfold in the first place. Through simple practices and reflection, participants begin rebuilding rhythm, direction, and clarity from the inside out.
The shift is subtle but meaningful: moving from treating life as a production problem to inhabiting it as a human one.
Most give you more information. The Path is practice, done with other people, over real time, and that’s what actually changes a pattern.
Time-management tools can help, but they rarely address the deeper experience of living under constant pressure. The Path focuses on that deeper layer, helping you move from the mechanical pace of Machine Time toward the lived experience of Human Time.
Often, yes.
The Path is designed for people who are capable, responsible, and productive, yet sense that something about how their days unfold doesn’t fully reflect who they want to become. Many participants arrive functioning well on the surface, but feeling misalignment underneath it.
The work isn’t about becoming more productive. It’s about bringing your time into deeper alignment with your life.
Noon ET or 7pm ET on Thursdays. Pick whichever fits your schedule.
The teaching content is recorded, so you’ll always have access to the core material. Group reflection sessions are not recorded, but two live options are offered each week to make participation easier across different schedules.
You’ll also have access to the private community and integration materials for a full year, so there’s plenty of room to engage the work at your own pace.
Weekly Thursday sessions are led by trained Path Guides, who facilitate the reflection process. Steven Lawson provides all teaching through weekly videos and leads the integration sessions in the final weeks. This structure is intentional: the guides hold space for experience, while Steven provides the framework and direct coaching where it’s most valuable.
The Monk Manual planner emerged from the same ideas behind The Path. For years, we’ve been exploring a different approach to time, one that emphasizes reflection, rhythm, and alignment rather than constant output. The planner was one way of bringing those ideas into daily life.
The Path goes deeper. It creates space to examine the assumptions shaping how we experience time in the first place, and to experiment with living differently. Many people discover the philosophy through the planner. The Path is where that philosophy becomes more fully lived.
You’ll complete a Season Assessment and decide whether to continue in the Practice Community. No pressure either way.
It’s worth expecting 1 to 2 hours per week total during the initial six weeks:
— One live reflection session (with multiple time options)
— One weekly practice integrated into your normal life
— Short teaching content to anchor the work
Weeks 7–12 shift with you, as such the commitment varies by individual. The work shifts from live cohort, to integration, and is highly dependent on circumstances. For some it may be less than an hour a week, with the potential for much more if appropriate given your priorities and desired pace and depth of change.
The Path is designed to fit into real life, not overwhelm it.
You’re almost certainly sacrificing much more time than this program requires. While there is a material commitment of time involved, you will likely find your experience of time becomes more spacious, not less, even in the early phases of The Path. As you become less internally busy, you will make more aligned decisions, and as you make better decisions — the noise of your life will reduce. This is about creating more time for what matters most rather than increasing the demands on an already busy schedule.
Many people arrive at The Path functioning well on the surface: productive, responsible, capable. But something about their days feels strangely mechanical, as if they’re carrying out their life rather than actually inhabiting it.
The Path helps people reconnect with their time from the inside out. Decisions become less forced. Attention becomes less fragmented. Work, rest, and relationships begin to feel more integrated. Instead of simply moving through their days, people begin to experience their lives as something they’re genuinely present inside.
Common outcomes include:
— Greater clarity about what actually matters
— Less internal pressure and decision fatigue
— The ability to make daily choices with more confidence
— Wisdom to design better rhythms
— A deeper sense of alignment between work, time, and life
This isn’t a quick fix. It’s a reorientation.
In many cases, yes. Participants can have their employer cover The Path through a professional development, leadership development, or continuing education budget. Because the program focuses on clarity, decision-making, focus, and sustainable performance, it can qualify under those categories.
If you’d like to ask your employer, you might frame it like this:
— The Path is a twelve-week leadership and personal effectiveness program
— It helps participants improve clarity, focus, and decision-making
— It supports sustainable productivity and long-term performance
Many companies are glad to support learning that improves both well-being and effectiveness at work, and your company benefits directly from your increased clarity and focus. We’re happy to provide a receipt or invoice for reimbursement if that helps.

If tuition is a genuine obstacle but you feel strongly called to participate, reach out. A limited number of partial scholarships are available.
The Path works best when people enter with real commitment, so we encourage participants to invest in the experience in a way that reflects the value they hope to receive from it.
Yes. We want The Path to work for you, not just to have you enroll.
If you complete the first two weeks, including the live sessions and weekly practices, and genuinely don’t feel it’s serving you, we’ll refund your enrollment. Just reach out before the start of week three.
We ask for real participation first because The Path is experiential. Change doesn’t show up by reading about it, it shows up through practice. Two weeks is enough to feel whether the process is working, without asking you to commit to all twelve before you know.
The Path isn’t designed for people looking for quick productivity hacks or passive online learning. It’s also not a good fit if you’re hoping someone will simply hand you a better system for managing more tasks.
The Path is reflective, experiential work. It asks you to examine the patterns shaping how you spend your time, and to experiment with new ways of living inside your days. If you’re willing to engage that process honestly, it can be deeply clarifying. But if you’re primarily looking for tactics or shortcuts, this likely isn’t the right place.
Take back your time, take back your life.
A different relationship with time doesn’t happen all at once. It begins with a single step.
